5 tips to help you relax after work

Whether you love what you do or hate getting out of bed every morning to go to work, at the end of the day you are bound to have some carryover stress from the workday.

Sometimes, it can be difficult to properly decompress at the end of the day, so you don’t completely relax at the end of the day, but rather fall asleep exhausted and continue the next day with the previous day’s stress.

However, there are some tips that can help you relax after work, leaving you properly refreshed to tackle the new day.

Take a long shower

A shower cleans your body, leaving you feeling fresher that you felt at the end of the day. This also gives you a different smell from what you were used to all day. Throw on a change of clothes after, put your feet up and relax.

Listen to music

Music can have a soothing effect on a person. Put on your favourite music during your commute home and start to prepare to take your mind off work.

Music has been shown to alleviate stress, relaxing you and making you healthier at the same time.

Go a step further and play a musical instrument if you can.

While working out at the end of the day might seem counterintuitive, I mean you are probably already tired from work.

However, the opposite is actually the case, exercising causes the secretion chemicals called endorphins.

Endorphins trigger a positive feeling in the body, they also act as sedatives helping you sleep better at night. Good thing is, there are exercises you can do in your home like yoga that helps you relax.

Spend time with friends and family

Time with friends and family is great for getting things in perspective, reminding why you do what you do.

Friends and family can also provide you with a more objective assessment of yourself, helping you get some positive affirmation that can be morale boosting and relaxing.

Find time for your passion

Spending time on something you are passionate about helps take your mind off, helping relax properly.

Take time out to play some games, whether board games or video games. Painting can also greatly help you relax, and who knows, you just might some Picasso in you!
